Honourable Member For Stratford-On-avon And New Labour

EDM number 1478 in 1994-95, proposed by Alex Salmond on 18/10/1995.

That this House congratulates the honourable Member for Stratford-on-Avon on leaving the Conservative and Unionist Party; expresses concern, however, that while the honourable Member for Stratford-on-Avon believes his principles have not changed, those of the Labour party have changed to meet his; notes that on 5th March 1987 he voted to impose the poll tax on Scotland; also draws attention to his support for the introduction of student loans; further notes that the honourable Member has voted for increasing VAT on domestic fuel to 17.5 per cent; and believes that the ease with which new Labour has embraced an honourable Member who holds such Tory and anti-Scottish views says a great deal about the Labour Party under its present leadership.

This motion has been signed by a total of 1 MPs.
