HON MEMBER FOR BRISTOL NORTH WEST AND THE REGISTER OF MEMBERS' INTERESTS

EDM number 1535 in 1994-95, proposed by Michael Stern on 30/10/1995.

That this House notes the attempted entry on 30th October 1995 by the honourable Member for Bristol North West in the Register of Members' Interests to the effect that the current rules of the Register preclude him from making an honest and complete declaration in accordance with the aims of the Register and that the existing entry is incomplete and misleading; further notes that it has been necessary for the honourable Member for Bristol North West to publish what he regards as a full declaration of interests and potential interests in the form of a press release since there is no opportunity for him to do so in any permanent form in the House; and believes in the light of this that the Select Committee on Members' Interests should look again at the restrictive rules currently imposed in order to ensure that honourable Members can use their own judgement as Right honourable and honourable Members as to the interests they declare.
