Government Rejection Of Single Regeneration Budget Support For West Northfield

EDM number 202 in 1994-95, proposed by Richard Burden on 06/12/1994.

That this House notes the decision of the Secretary of State for the Environment to exclude the West Northfield Regeneration initiative from those projects schedule to receive support under the single regeneration budget; further notes that West Northfield and similar areas contain areas of high poverty, deprivation and poor housing and that the Secretary of State's decision, following the termination of the estate action programme, the local authorities' standard spending assessment announcement and cuts in housing investment announced in the Budget, will force thousands of families in Birmingham's outer city areas to continue living in cold, damp, overcrowded conditions with few community facilities; and calls on the Government to back initiatives for the social and economic regeneration of West Northfield and similar areas instead of showing such disregard for the well being of families living on outer city estates.

This motion has been signed by a total of 18 MPs.
