VAT On Fuel

EDM number 252 in 1994-95, proposed by Nigel Jones on 12/12/1994.

That this House welcomes the Chancellor's decision not to proceed with the implementation of VAT on fuel at 17.5 per cent., but notes that the present rate of 8 per cent. is a considerable burden to those on low incomes; further notes that pensions who are on a reduced rate state pension do not receive the full amount of extra help towards VAT on fuel though they suffer the same rise in their fuel bills; and calls on the Chancellor to remove this anomaly immediately.
