Future Of Water Services In Northern Ireland

EDM number 278 in 1994-95, proposed by Eddie McGrady on 14/12/1994.

That this House reaffirms its opposition to the proposals for the privatisation of water and sewerage services in Northern Ireland because it is contrary to the future needs of the people in Northern Ireland whether in the industrial, agricultural or domestic sphere; believes furthermore that the intentions of the Government are undemocratic, misleading and secretive and expose a whole range of matters which are contrary to the public good and totally at variance with normal financial procedures and safeguards; and calls on the Government to allow the people of Northern Ireland to have their say to initiate a referendum on this issue and to abandon all plans for the privatisation of Northern Ireland Water Services.

This motion has been signed by a total of 23 MPs.
