Queens University Belfast And The National Anthem

EDM number 355 in 1994-95, proposed by Ian Paisley on 11/01/1995.

That this House condemns the action of the senate of Queen's University, Belfast in banning the playing of the National Anthem at graduation ceremonies; believes the banning of this long established tradition displays a total disrepect for the views of most students and the wider community; calls for the decision to be rescinded in view of its partisan, biased and divisive nature; and furthermore rejects the notion that the playing of the National Anthem can be regarded as being detrimental to a neutral working environment, or that graduation ceremonies can be regarded as forming part of the workplace.

This motion has been signed by a total of 18 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
