National Bingo Week

That this House congratulates the Bingo Association and bingo players on the success of the first National Bingo Week in October; notes that it raised over ú350,000 for local as well as national charities as diverse as Guide Dogs for the Blind, Breakthrough in Breast Cancer and St. Ann's Hospice, Little Hulton; notes that the week's activities, which included the presentation of the National Bingo Caller award, 'Hunt the Hedgehog' competitions in Nottingham and the plunging of numerous bingo club staff into 'gunge tanks' in London contributed to over 350 charities; appreciates the real value of such community-based fundraising as well as the indirect support for good causes represented by the purchase of a National Lottery ticket; commends the bingo industry's admirable record in supporting charities over the last five years by raising ú1,411,775; and urges it to maintain its efforts to help good causes alongside the National Lottery.
