Law Trust Hospital

EDM number 482 in 1994-95, proposed by Jim Hood on 25/01/1995.

That this House expresses its strong disapproval at the press notices issued by the Law Trust Hospital recommending that injured and sick people in Clydesdale constituency should not turn up at the casualty and emergency department unless they are seriously ill or injured; notes that the internal market philosophy that drives this Trust is now seriously affecting patient care, and that people are already being denied care by the length of time that they have to wait for appointments with consultants; considers that the managers are failing in their duties when they do not employ enough doctors and nurses to properly provide emergency and casualty services; further notes that the excuse of management that they can not get doctors is spurious; is aware that the same situation occurred two years previously at Stonehouse Hospital, where the management completely closed the casualty and emergency department; calls on the Scottish Health Minister to immediately investigate this alarming trend that now threatens the National Health Service in Scotland; and calls for an investigation into the management and accounting practices at the hospital.
