Mis-Statement By The Sunday Times

That this House condemns the editor of The Sunday Times for declining to publish a letter from Councillor Theresa Stewart, Leader of Birmingham City Council, refuting claims that the council has mis-spent public money and citing the comments on the district auditor that this was 'a proper part of the democratic process'; notes that, despite claims by The Sunday Times on 22nd January, the council employs no female liaison officers, that the budget for the women's festival for 1994 was ú35,600 and not ú100,000, reducing to ú25,660 this year, and that no workshops for lesbians with disabilities are or have been held; and calls upon the editor to show a higher standard of integrity and regard for the facts in reporting the affairs of Birmingham City Council and other local authorities.
