Westminster Council Lessee Repair Charges

That this House is extremely alarmed at the revelations in the much-delayed internal auditors' report on Westminster City Council's decision not to charge their lessees for repairs and maintenance on the instruction of Peter Hartley, the Conservative Chair of the Housing Committee; notes that this policy is judged to have cost the council about ú30 million to date; is outraged that these costs fell largely upon the Housing Revenue Account and were therefore met by council tenants at a cost of up to ú650 per tenant; notes the internal auditors' comments on the ridiculously poor procedures and accountancy standards; and congratulates the Westminster objectors who have had to raise ú100,000 to continue their work exposing the depth of corruption at Westminster Council, but believes that the Government should not leave this work to Westminster residents and should immediately establish an extraordinary audit of the council to clear out the raft of corrupt and illegal practices that continue to be exposed at Westminster.
