Ipu Parliamentary Delegation From Turkey

That this House notes the visit to London by a Parliamentary delegation from Turkey from 30th January to 3rd February; is aware that representatives of Her Majesty's Government will meet the delegation on Wednesday 1st February; calls upon the Foreign Secretary to make clear to the delegation Her Majesty's Government's concern about abuses of human rights and its condemnation of the use of torture, extra-judicial killings and destruction of villages by the Turkish government; demands the immediate release from prison of members of the Democracy Party who have been democratically elected to the Turkish Parliament and an end to the persecution and killing of writers, lawyers and human rights activists; and resolves that Turkey will not be permitted to join the European Union until it ends both the oppression and denial of basic human rights of its Kurdish population and its illegal occupation of Cyprus. (Relevant registered interest declared).
