Imprisonment Of Doctor Halik Gerger

That this House is greatly concerned at the imprisonment in Ankara of Dr Halik Gerber, General Secretary of the UNA in Turkey and a member of the Executive Committee of the World Federation of United Nations Associations; notes that he has been imprisoned since last December and is threatened with prosecution under defamation of armed forces government and the state as well as the anti-terror law; understands that all the charges relate to his activities in favour of democratic and human rights aspirations of the Kurdish population in Turkey; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to make urgent representations to Turkey for his immediate release.
