Shortage Of Junior Doctors For The Huntingdon Constituency
EDM number 553 in 1994-95, proposed by Alex Carlile on 06/02/1995.
That this House notes the Peterborough Hospitals Trust's decision to offer doctors ú50 per hour to avoid night closure of its accident and emergency department; notes the decision was made due to a lack of junior doctors to run the department; notes that whilst junior doctors are paid in the region of ú10 per hour, the trust is recruiting general practitioners by offering to pay them five times this rate; notes that the trust has several unfilled junior doctor posts; calls on the Prime Minister, whose Huntingdon constituency is served by the hospital, to ensure an adequate provision of staff for the Peterborough Hospital Trust accident and emergency department without these measures; and further calls on the Prime Minister to explain how this situation could arise and what NHS reforms he proposes to prevent similar situations from arising.
