Access To Information For The Visually Impaired

That this House welcomes the publication of the report Second Class Citizens? by the Royal National Institute for the Blind; notes the findings of the report which reveal that many of the United Kingdom's one million blind and partially sighted people are denied access to information; believes that blind and partially sighted people have a right to receive information in a format which they can access; welcomes the intention of the Disability Discrimination Bill to tackle communication barriers facing visually impaired people; hopes that the Bill will provide a clear, effective and enforceable right to information; and calls on the Government to support amendments to the Bill to ensure that the potential loopholes and anomalies in the Bill are removed.
