Quincentenary Of University Of Aberdeen

EDM number 632 in 1994-95, proposed by Malcolm Bruce on 16/02/1995.

That this House praises the University of Aberdeen in this its quincentenary year; congratulates the University for receiving the freedom of the city of Aberdeen; appreciates that since the University was founded by Bishop Elphinstone in 1495 it has been central to the cultural and educational life in the North and North East of Scotland; and recognises that as Scotland's third oldest and Britain's fifth oldest university it has an admirable national and international reputation for educational excellence both as a centre for research and in providing a first class grounding for students.
