Accident And Emergency Services In Basildon And Thurrock
EDM number 717 in 1994-95, proposed by Andrew Mackinlay on 01/03/1995.
That this House learns with alarm the contents of a letter from H. G. Naylor, the Medical Director of the Basildon and Thurrock Hospital Trust, to general practitioners, in which he states that 'in common with almost every hospital in the country we are experiencing difficulties in recruiting a satisfactory level of staffing in our accident and emergency department'; notes that as a consequence he implores all general practitioners to consider working a session in the accident and emergency department in order 'to help us out during this staffing crisis'; recalls that the crisis in the provision of accident and emergency services for the people of Basildon and Thurrock was predicted by practically everyone in both Basildon and Thurrock at the time it was decided to close the accident and emergency department at Orsett Hospital; and now calls upon the purchasing health authority to require the immediate re-opening of accident and emergency services at Orsett Hospital in order to alleviate the crisis and improve hospital services for the people of both Basildon and Thurrock.
