DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WITH DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF KOREA

EDM number 745 in 1994-95, proposed by Robert Parry on 07/03/1995.

That this House notes that the Geneva Accord agreed between the governments of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the United States of America as well as the various practical steps already taken by the two sides towards its implementation, provide a framework for finally resolving the Korean nuclear issue and overcoming one of the final legacies of the Cold War through the normalisation of DPRK-USA economic and political relations, defusing tensions on the Korean peninsula and opening the way towards improved relations and eventual peaceful reunification of north and south Korea; considers that there can no longer be any valid reason for Her Majesty's Government not to establish normal diplomatic relations with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea; and believes that the development of political and economic ties with the DPR Korea would be of mutual benefit to the peoples of the two countries, as well as to peace, stability and development in the Far East.
