Unified Business Rates And Security Measures

EDM number 794 in 1994-95, proposed by Liz Lynne on 13/03/1995.

That this House deplores the contradictory messages being given to small business whereby the Home Secretary urges them to join the fight against crime, while the Secretary of State for the Environment penalises them for security measures that they take, such as shutters to deter ram-riders, by increasing the level of their business rates; notes that security cameras have been deemed non-rateable; and calls on the Government to extend the same exemption to other security measures.

This motion has been signed by a total of 25 MPs.
