Corruption In Nhs Trusts

EDM number 940 in 1994-95, proposed by Ken Livingstone on 30/03/1995.

That this House notes that former Treasury Under Secretary, Alan Healey, who was jailed in 1991 for fiddling his expenses, won a ú500 per day 'temporary' consultancy post at Northwick Park Hospital where he was working with the director of contracts and information, his former Treasury assistant Carole Hall, who was cleared of any part in the expenses fiddle; further notes that Ms Hall asked Mr Healey to assist in interviewing candidates for the post of head of information systems and technology and after completion of the interviews decided to appoint Mr Healey to this post although he had not applied for it and although she admits he does not have the 'actual skills' required; finally records its contempt for Ms Hall's view that this behaviour was 'very unlikely to excite much adverse comment'; and looks forward to the day when NHS trusts return to public accountability.
