Equal Provision Of Beta-Interferon For Multiple Sclerosis

That this House recognises that Beta-Interferon can play a major role in relieving some of those with multiple sclerosis; further recognises, in line with the Multiple Sclerosis Society, that the provision and prescription of drug treatments should be on the basis of clinical assessments of the suitability for individuals; is disturbed, therefore, to learn that such drug treatments are being delayed or withheld in different parts of the country on the basis not of clinical judgement but of budget restrictions; believes that a truly national health service must do its utmost to ensure that crucial and clinically prescribed drugs are available in every part of the country at a time when they will maximise the relief from pain; and calls upon the Government to institute an urgent investigation into these claims.
