Private Nursing And Residential Homes In Scotland

That this House is concerned at the lack of scrutiny of private nursing homes and residential home owners who apply to Scottish health boards and local authorities for registration to provide nursing care for the elderly; is particularly concerned that there is no thorough investigation into the source of financial funding of owners when considering applications; recognises the danger of criminals infiltrating nursing home ownership to launder money from serious crimes such as drug smuggling and dealing; calls on Her Majesty's Government immediately to initiate an inquiry into their procedures in respect of registration; invites chief constables to examine closely the ownership of private homes in Scotland; and would welcome such an inquiry to start in the Lanarkshire Health Board area.
