Tribute To Charlie Moore

EDM number 1072 in 1995-96, proposed by Tony Lloyd on 27/06/1996.

That this House recognises the contribution of Charles Douglas Moore to the improvement of the quality of life of young people in Moss Side which is one of the most deprived areas of the country; notes that in his over 30 years in Britain he has made major contributions in developing employment opportunities in Moss Side through his involvement with the Moss Side and District Training Agency and the Office Skills Project; applauds his work in developing sport in the area working as coach, an umpire and referee and at the Moss Side Spor ts Foundation, an umbrella body to develop sporting talents, his work to highlight the issues of crime in Moss Side through the Moss Side Initiative, Black People in the Criminal Justice System, his work in helping to develop a community initiative for meeting the needs of mental health sufferers through the African Caribbean Mental Health Project, his management and development of Moss Side Youth Centre which is now widely recognised as an important resource for meeting the social, leisure, sporting and educational needs of young people in the area; believes that his unconditional support and availability for the general community and his local church will be remembered by people in Moss Side for years to come; and wishes him many years happy retirement on Barbados, the island of his youth.
