Local Authorities And Euro 96

That this House congratulates local authorities in England for the imagination, organisation and hard work they have shown in making the Euro 96 Championships such a success; notes the enterprising events they have hosted in partnership with the private sector and sports organisations include SoccerC ity cyber cafes in Manchester, an interactive football exhibition in Sheffield, a comedy festival in Liverpool, street theatre in Leeds, the Eurofestin Newcastle with a special Lindisfarne concert, a photo football exhibition in Birmingham, a Euro 96 festival with the Gladiators in Brent, the UK European football championships for disabled persons in Nottingham and dragonboat racing on the River Trent; further notes that councils across Britain are also hosting plays, debates, and lectures as well as sports events for all the family; and notes that these events have greatly contributed to the friendly spirit throughout the championships and played a major role in making visitors to Euro 96 feel welcome.
