Members Pay And Public Sector Earnings

That this House, bearing in mind the comments in Volume 2 of the Report No. 38, Review of Parliamentary Pay and Allowances, notes that appropriate and defensible external comparators might be, in the public sector, the headteacher of a 1,2 00 pupil LEA comprehensive school, not situated in an inner city or particularly deprived area (ú38-49,000), a police superintendent responsible for an area with around 300,000 population and approximately 400 uniformed officers (ú42-45,000),a specialist consultant in the NHS (ú42-54,000),the Director of Finance of a 130,000 population Shire District Council that is not a unitary authority, usually responsible for council tax and other revenue collection, as well as financial management, a traditional Grade 5 post in the Civil Service ( ú38-59,000) and a battalion or regimental commander, Lieute nant Colonel rank.
