Wheel Losses From Lorries And Buses

That this House notes the estimated 3,000 incidents per year of wheel loss from lorries and buses and 10 deaths per yearcaused by such accidents; notes that the Department of Transport have failed either to maintain statistics on the number of incidents or carry out detailed research into the cause such as to give a definitive solution; welcomes the work undertaken by the All Party Group Brake and Commercial Motor Magazine in highlighting this issue; and calls on the Department of Transport to fund through its recently announced grants scheme research by wheel design expert, Professor Leslie Henshall of Brunel University, into a design solution to prevent the continuation of these horrific incidents.
