Royal Mail Statutory Monopoly
EDM number 1177 in 1995-96, proposed by David Atkinson on 16/07/1996.
That this House welcomes the Government's review of the Royal Mail's statutory monopoly on delivery of letters under ú1; notes that this one of the few artificial monopolies left remaining and that this monopoly leaves the consumer at the mercy of a single industrial dispute at a huge cost to the economy; hopes that consumer choice will be extended in this most crucial area of our national life; and looks forward to a positive outcome of the review.
