Refugees From Bhutan

EDM number 1191 in 1995-96, proposed by Nicholas Winterton on 17/07/1996.

That this House expresses grave concern at the plight of the 100,000 Nepali-speaking refugees from Bhutan, most of whom live in refugee camps in Nepal; calls upon the governments of Bhutan and Nepal, in co-operation with all other parties involved, to reach an agreement and make practical preparations which will allow the early voluntary repatriation of all genuine Bhutanese refugees to Bhutan; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to use all diplomatic avenues to encourage the governments of Thutan, Nepal and India to bring forward proposals to tackle this most serious situation and to achieve a just and lasting solution.

This motion has been signed by a total of 9 MPs.
