Conduct Of The Honourable Member For Leicester East

EDM number 151 in 1995-96, proposed by David Shaw on 04/12/1995.

That this House condemns the remarks made by the honourable Member for Leicester East as recorded in the Channel 4 Despatches programme broadcast on Wednesday 29th November in which the honourable Member for Leicester East is recorded as saying in connection with the future of the Deputy Leader of Leicester City Council 'we don't get any choice as to who the hell's taking over, and then I was told that the person who was going to take over was going to be Brian Shore, and I said why should it be a white person?... Why should we have a white person?; believes these remarks to be blatantly racist in their nature; calls upon the Commission for Racial Equality to initiate proceedings under the Race Relations Act; and further condemns the failure of the Labour Party leadership to take immediate disciplinary action against the honourable Member for Leicester East.

This motion has been signed by a total of 10 MPs.
