Housing Co-Operatives And Tenant Control

That this House welcomes the publication of research into the benefits of housing co-operatives and other forms of tenant control carried out by Price Waterhouse and recently published by the Department of the Environment in the report Tenants in Control: an Evaluation of Tenant-Led Housing Management Organisations; notes that in comparison with other social housing landlords, co-operatives and other tenant management organisations provide value for money, are cost effective and generate other personal and social benefits which more than outweigh the set-up costs; also notes that the performance of housing co-operatives in the housing association sector compares with the best known and professionally run housing associations in the country; and asks the Government to ensure that the key policy implications identified in the Price Waterhouse report are recognised.
