That this House notes with concern that Mr Alan Davison, a businessman who was convicted of conspiring to defraud Sunde rland and Newcastle City Councils of ú142,000 is to be allowed out on day release after serving only nine weeks of a 21 month prison sentence; notes that Mr Davison was brought to justice only after a police investigation and trial which cost an estimated ú1 million; believes that the fact that Mr Davison has influential friends is not a reason why he should be treated differently from other convicted criminals; and calls on the Home Secretary to ensure that he is not.
