Turkey And The Customs Union

EDM number 182 in 1995-96, proposed by Roseanna Cunningham on 07/12/1995.

That this House urges the Members of the European Parliament to vote against Turkey's admission to the Customs Union as Turkey has failed to comply with the conditions set out in the European Parliament's decision of 13th June namely the abolition of Article 8 of the Turkish Penal Code and the release of imprisoned Kurdish parliamentarians; and believes that endorsement of Turkey's application would undermine both the move towards democracy in Turkey and the authority and credibility of the European Parliament.
