Employment Practices Of Starlight Garments
EDM number 186 in 1995-96, proposed by Janet Anderson on 07/12/1995.
That this House is appalled to learn that Starlight Garmentsof Blackburn have been employing constituents of the honourable Member for Rossendale and Darwen at a rate of ú57 for a 42 hour week; notes with concern that some of these employees had their weekly wages reduced to ú25 because Starlight felt they worked too slowly, and that when they had paid their daily bus fares of ú1.60, this left them with a miserly ú17 for a forty-two and a half hourweek; condemns the wholly unacceptable employment practices of Starlight Garments which would have been worthy of Ebeneezer Scrooge; and calls upon the company immediately to give their workers a fair day's pay for a fair day's work.
