Vickers Memorandum

EDM number 240 in 1995-96, proposed by George Galloway on 09/01/1996.

That this House is gravely concerned by the contents of the Vickers Memorandum, revealed by the Guardian newspaper and written by a captain of industry and Knight of the Realm, Sir Colin Chandler, Chief Executive of Vickers, in which, having plotted with Dick Evans, Chief Executive of British Aerospace, and others, he engages in a casual discussion and dispassionate analysis of the difficulties involved in either kidnapping or murdering Professor Muhammed al-Massari, a political refugee living peacefully in London, the purpose of which crime was the silencing of the most prominent critic of the absolute monarchy in Saudi Arabia; and calls upon Vickers to dismiss Chandler and BAe to dismiss Evans as not fit and proper persons to run important British companies, being accessories before the fact of a conspiracy to kidnap and murder a defenceless refugee.

This motion has been signed by a total of 22 MPs.
