Infant Mortality Rate In Wales
EDM number 262 in 1995-96, proposed by Rhodri Morgan on 10/01/1996.
That this House is appalled by the 10 per cent. rise in the infant mortality rate in Wales in 1994, revealed by Table 1.5 of Health Statistics Wales 1995; is even more appalled by the claim made by the Secretary of State in his press release accompanying the publication of this statistical yearbook, that infant mortality rates were falling dramatically; and is concerned that the Secretary of State does not understand the difference between a rise and a fall in the infant mortality rate, or is willing to sacrifice all respect for statistical accuracy in a vain attempt to persuade those actually living in Wales that all aspects of the National Health Service are on an improving trend, even though infant mortality rates are plainly moving in the opposite direction.
