Terrorist Beatings And Murders In Northern Ireland
EDM number 305 in 1995-96, proposed by Ken Maginnis on 18/01/1996.
That this House is appalled by the almost 300 brutal beatings and eight murders which have been perpetrated against civilians in Northern Ireland by terrorist organisations claiming to be in a ceasefire mode; deplores attempts by Sinn Fein/IRA to justify summary executions on the basis that victims have, allegedly, been committing illegal drug offences and to excuse beatings on the pretence that victims are allegedly, petty criminals; and notes that, against such criteria, Derry City Sinn Fein Councillor Hugh Brady would have been deemed liable to summary execution for a drugs related offence and that Sinn Fein Northern Chairman Gerry O'Hara would have been subjected to brutal beating as a result of the burglary, theft and anti-social offences he committed as a young man.
