Human Rights In Sierra Leone
EDM number 314 in 1995-96, proposed by Gerald Kaufman on 19/01/1996.
That this House expresses its profound concern at the failure of the Sierra Leone High Commission in London to respond o ver a period of eight months to concerns expressed by the Right honourable Member for Manchester, Gorton, about the fate of relatives of constituents of the Right honourable Member in an area where military action had been taking place; holds the view that it is pointless for representatives of Sierra Leone to mouth meaningless platitudes about human rights in that country at Commonwealth Heads of Government meetings and elsewhere, when their diplomatic representatives are so slack and imcompetent in responding to conern about human rights issues; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to raise both these general and particular issues with the Government of Sierra Leone.
