Future Of Rossendale General Hospital
EDM number 341 in 1995-96, proposed by Janet Anderson on 25/01/1996.
That this House is appalled at the proposal of Burnley Healthcare Trust to cut 70 jobs, remove 31 beds, close one ward and introduce mixed wards at Rossendale General Hospital; questions why the Trust should contemplate such action at a time when patients are being turned away through lacks of beds; understands that a recent survey revealed no complaints whatsoever about Rossendale General; is concerned at suggestions that the cuts will particularly affect nursing staff and that there may possibly be redundancies at sister level; believes that the proposal has everything to do with cutting costs and nothing to do with patient care, as was apparently confirmed by the Chief Executive, Mr David Chew, in his recent meeting with staff at the hospital; considers that it is quite wrong for patients to be put at risk as a result of financial imperatives; and urges Burnley Healthcare Trust to take urgent action to resolve its financial difficulties by some other means.
