Central Railways Plc

That this House recognises the very great concern of the planning authorities in the 33 county, district and borough councils along the route of the proposed Central Railway about the lack of information made available to them by the promoters of Central Railways plc, contrary to the rules of the Transport and Works Act 1992; notes that the Government is already considering applications for waivers from compliance with the requirements of the Act without consultation with these local authorities; and calls upon the Government to put the interests of local communities before those of private speculators by rejecting out of hand any proposal that does not fully accept and protect the legitimate interests and aspirations of democratically elected local authorities and those they represent.
