Availability Of Magazine Titles At W H Smith

That this House condemns the decision taken by W H Smith Ltd, which came into effect on 1st February, to withdraw Tribune and many other magazine titles from the shelves of its retail stores; believes that this decision is an attack on choice and diversity and represents censorship; notes that such a restrictive move would not be possible elsewhere in the European Union, where there is a statutory right to display magazines at newsagents; believes that it is vital to the interest of free speech, diversity and consumer choice for journals such as Tribune to survive and flourish; and consequently asks W H Smith to rescind this decision, which threatens the survival of many magazines.
