Women In Sport
EDM number 625 in 1995-96, proposed by Tony Banks on 18/03/1996.
That this House is opposed to all discrimination against women in sport; notes that certain countries ban women from sports activities and in the case of Iran, even refused to allow a Spanish woman athlete to carry the Iranian placard in the opening ceremony of the Barcelona Olympics; believes that any country which denies the right of women athletes to participate should not be allowed to compete in the Olympic Games; supports the campaign of Atlanta Plus to end discrimination in sport against women; and calls upon the British Olympic Committee to insist that the International Olympic Committee takes action to enforce the charter statement that all discrimination based on race, religion, politics or sex is incompatible with the Olympic movement.
