Thirty Years Of Abortion Legislation

EDM number 752 in 1995-96, proposed by David Alton on 18/04/1996.

That this House notes that 1997 will mark 30 years of abortion legislation, during which time 4 million unborn babies have been aborted; notes that the 1967 Abortion Act and the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act of 1990, which permits abortion up to birth on handicapped babies, experimentation and the freezing of human embryos, are an integral part of the most violent century in the history of mankind; notes that such legislation is uncivilised and unjustified and contrary to natural law; recognises that each individual will be held to account for collaboration or silence in such legislation; reiterates the ancient right of the innocent not to be killed, as a principle fundamental to any coherent conception of human rights; and calls for the urgent repeal of laws which destroy and eliminate human life and their replacement by a positive pro-life programme for women and children.
