Meat Hygiene Service And Quality Of Beef Carcases

EDM number 827 in 1995-96, proposed by Edward O'Hara on 01/05/1996.

That this House takes note of recent news reports that fragments of spinal cord continue to remain in beef carcases leaving slaughterhouses; is concerned that the proprietors of slaughterhouses may be held responsible for this, whereas in fact every carcase must be passed and stamped for a fee, by an inspector of the Meat Hygiene Service; and views this as yet another demonstration of the inefficiency of the Meat Hygiene Service whose charges are nevertheless crippling the fresh meat industry.

This motion has been signed by a total of 24 MPs.
