Conduct Of The Honourable Member For Newcastle East

EDM number 887 in 1995-96, proposed by Tim Renton on 14/05/1996.

That this House is greatly saddened by the insensitive decision of the honourable Member for Newcastle upon Tyne East to block the progress of the Hong Kong Bill on Friday 10th May, thus denying over 50 elderly widows of Chinese nationals who died in the defence of Hong Kong the automatic right to hold a British passport; notes that the Bill was blocked despite being supported by the Shadow Foreign Secretary on his visit to Hong Kong last week; further notes the comments of the honourable Member for Newcastle upon Tyne East made in the Sunday Hong Kong Standard that his decision to block the Bill had been deliberate; and calls upon the Labour leadership to reprimand the honourable Member for Newcastle upon Tyne East.

This motion has been signed by a total of 14 MPs.
