EDM number 910 in 1995-96, proposed by John Cummings on 20/05/1996.

That this House notes with pleasure, and congratulates, the head teacher, governors, staff and pupils at Shotton Primary School which is located in the constituency of Easington who are praised in an OFSTED inspector's report for outstanding features which serve the community of Shotton so well; notes that the report states overall, the management and administration are exemplary and make a substantial contribution to education in the school, the pupils had a very strong work ethic, confidence with their work, enjoyment in their work and worked well with each other in all subjects; further notes that the head teacher Mrs Mabel Hepplewhite provides strong and positive leadership which is reflected in the school being an orderly community in which pupils are generally courteous and helpful, have a developing sense of right and wrong and follow closely the moral principles that underpin the school and that the inspection team also found that parents in Shotton appreciated the wide programme of extra curricular activities offered to their children and the school's success in achieving good attendances with no unauthorised absences; and calls upon the Secretary of State for Education and Employment to study the report in detail and learn the lessons contained therein.
