Support For British Sport

EDM number 941 in 1995-96, proposed by Nigel Jones on 04/06/1996.

That this House notes that 1996 is an Olympic year; is deeply concerned that so many talented British sportsmen and women find it difficult to meet the financial burden of the training and competition programmes necessary to qualify for selection for the Olympics; congratulates, particularly, the British Highboard Champion Leon Taylor from Cheltenham on his superb achievements in the diving world which would not have been possible without the financial support of his family, friends and charitable organisations; believes that access to sports facilities and coaching should be available to everyone regardless of their background; and urges the Government to carry out an inquiry into how British sport should be funded in the future.

This motion has been signed by a total of 15 MPs.
