EURO '96

EDM number 949 in 1995-96, proposed by Matthew Taylor on 05/06/1996.

That this House hopes that all involved with Euro '96 will act as ambassadors for their countries leading to better understanding and tolerance between European nations; is appalled at the current xenophobic and anti-European rhetoric of the tabloid newpapers and others which can only help to cause trouble at Euro '96; is disappointed with the Government funding of just a few thousand pounds to the cities hosting the matches in the light of Government income from the sale of tickets of ú9,000,000; commiserates with Wales and the Irish teams for not qualifying; looks forward to an England versus Scotland final on Sunday 30th June; and expresses the wish, 'may the best team win'.

This motion has been signed by a total of 11 MPs.
