FLANAGAN'S BAR, UXBRIDGE ROAD

That this House rejects the offensive comments made in the Evening Standard magazine section of 25th October about the Irish community and Flanagans Bar in referring to the opening of 'Flanagan's, a modern, Irish-themed bar in the Uxbridge Road. W12 has, after all, more Irish boozers than you can shake an Armalite at. Presumably the new genteel, scrubbed-wood Flanagan's is where upwardly mobile bombers can now take the lady wife after a hard day with the Semtex'; and calls upon the Evening Standard to apologise unreservedly, recognising that the vast majority of Irish people do not support the bombers and that this type of thoughtless comment encourages hostility and division between the British and Irish people as well as damaging the reputation of Flanagan's and their customers and takes no account of the determination of the British and Irish people to reject the violence of paramilitary groups in Northern Ireland.
