Bradford Commission Report

EDM number 243 in 1996-97, proposed by Max Madden on 25/11/1996.

That this House notes the Bradford Commission, established in September 1995, following the Bradford riots of June 1995, whose report was published on 20th November 1996, runs to 206 pages; further notes the report was not unanimous; is dismayed the report fails to make specific recommendations for action, especially by Central Government to help people living in the Manningham and Girlington areas of Bradford overcome the acute poverty and deprivation which the Commission Report exposes; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to take full account of the comments made by the Commission Report when considering the Bradford West bid under the single Regeneration Budget, the extension of section 11, increasing capital funding to tackle Bradford's crumbling schools and increasing Local Government funding to enable Bradford City Council to maintain key services, including funding to enable low income owner-occupiers to improve and renovate their homes and to increase the numbers of police officers on duty, to expand the recruitment of ethnic minority police officers and training programmes to combat endemic racism within the police service.

This motion has been signed by a total of 14 MPs.
