Conduct Of The Honourable Member For The Isle Of Wight

EDM number 256 in 1996-97, proposed by David Rendel on 26/11/1996.

That this House notes that during the Second Reading of the Local Government and Rating Bill on 6th November the honourable Member for the Isle of Wight claimed that in the nine years he has been a Member of this House the Liberal Democrats had always controlled local government in the Isle of Wight, yet despite his urgings to use business rate relief, they had never done so; notes that in fact the Conservative Party previously controlled Medina Borough Council and never used business rate relief; further notes that South Wight Borough Council, led by the Liberal Democrats, did in fact grant business rate relief on four occasions between 1990 and 1995; and therefore calls on the honourable Member to withdraw his comments.

This motion has been signed by a total of 13 MPs.
