Government Attitude To The Citizens Of Kingston-Upon-hull

EDM number 550 in 1996-97, proposed by Kevin McNamara on 18/02/1997.

That this House notes with concern the shameful and outrageous treatment of Kingston-upon-Hull City Council by the Government with respect to the 1997-98 Supplementary Credit Approvals; recognises that this new unitary authority has only received ú2.61 per capita in SCA towards its 1997-98 reorganisation costs when its neighbouring authority, the East Riding of Yorkshire, has received ú8.11 per capita for the same period; further notes that the East Riding of Yorkshire Council has less immediate financial problems with wider scope to achieve savings through rationalization, but is an area with three Conservative Members of Parliament and has been treated far more favourably, is concerned that, despite repeated requests from the City Council to meet the Minister for Local Government Housing and Urban Regeneration, such requests have been ignored; and as a consequence fears a lack of resources to underpin the Kingston-upon-Hull City Council's contribution to Single Regeneration Budget projects in partnership with the Government, the private sector and other partners.

This motion has been signed by a total of 13 MPs.
